In 2011, GE and several Partners sponsored a $100 million global open innovation challenge to identify and bring to market ideas that advance breast cancer diagnostics. The Challenge was launched in collaboration with leading venture capital firms Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Venrock, Mohr Davidow and MPM Capital. In 2011, more than 500 ideas from 40 countries were submitted.

HealthAhead is how we live healthymagination within GE. By the end of 2011, 350 of GE's largest sites were HealthAhead-certified—half of these sites, outside of the United States. The result is that we've benefitted two-thirds of our global employee population.
